I Ate a Roze Koek at the Party
Graduation exhibition at Gerrit Rietveld Academie

I Ate a Roze Koek at the Party

2023
Secondhand sheets and tablecloth, natural dyes; chlorophyll and cochineal, direct dye, silk- screen ink, ceramics, fabric, acrylic paint, secondhand wood from the building site next to the school, wood.
250x450x60

The installation shows multiple textile works that interact with Dutch identity like the Dutch birthday party; eating hema picture cake and roze koeken in the park. This resulted in the com- bination of the works: ‘Sun High in the Sky Dye’ and ‘Hema Picture Cake Polka Print’, ‘Fading Colour Theory’ and ‘Roze Koek Monochrome’. The natural dye chlorophyll of the large green textile is a recently invented pigment compared to other natural dyes. The latest research has not yet figured out how to make it colour-fast. The fabric will quickly fade to yellow, switching the colour contrasts of the silkscreen print. The other side of the installation includes parts of the work ‘Window shopping’ and multiple large ceramic gingham printed tiles.

Selfmade inflatable, wood. 250x500x200

Inflatable White Van For Graduation Bert McLean and I decided to continue our collaborative ‘Roadworks’ inflatables series. We turned the a bit seedy/shady white delivery van into an exhibi- tion space inside the academy. During the grad show my work: ‘Window Shopping’ was exhibited inside the back of the ‘Van’.
